Located at the southern tip of the barrier islands in Pinellas County, St Pete Beach has long been hailed as a top vacation destination due to it's award winning beaches and amazing weather. What most people don't realize is that the gulf beach communities in central Florida are a great place to buy a home, either as a rental, full-time residence, or winter getaway.
In 2016, TripAdvisor rated St Pete Beach the #4 beach in the United States, and for good reason! Not only are the beaches some of the most beautiful in the world, but the boating, fishing, golf, and nearby restaurant scene in Downtown St Pete are all world-class.
One of the most iconic landmarks is the world-famous Don Cesar Hotel. Located at the corner of Gulf Blvd and the Pinellas Bayway, if you have not seen it already it is the first thing you will see coming over the bridge onto the beach. Featuring 2 award-winning restaurants, if you are looking for a place to stay while house hunting, we would highly recommend "The Don".
Just over the bridge and a quick right will take you through beautiful Tierra Verde to Fort De Soto State Park, a former US Army post during the civil war. These days it is a popular campground and has one of the few dog beaches in Pinellas County. It also has a popular boat ramp for residents of the area as well as several piers for some great fishing!
When looking at homes for sale in St Pete Beach, you really cannot go wrong as the entire city of St Pete Beach is fantastic. As you can imagine, the closer you are to the water the more expensive homes are going to be. The most expensive real estate in St Pete Beach can be found just south of the Don Cesar Hotel in an area called Pass-a-Grille. While the beach is world-renowned for it's beauty, the homes in this area are equally impressive.
From small beach-side cottages to multi-million dollar mansions, Pass-a-Grill (or PAG for short) has a wide array of homes ranging from half-a-million up to several million dollars and the pricing are just going to continue to increase. While you can get into a home on Pass-a-Grille Beach for around $500k, that will not buy you much house.
For the best bang for your buck, you are better off looking a little north on Gulf Blvd in a neighborhood like Belle Vista or going even further north into the town of Treasure Island. These areas have homes starting at around $200k for a fixer upper or foreclosure, so the area is affordable for many families and retirees.
With interest rates still near all-time lows and a smoking-hot market, the time to hire a St Pete Beach real estate agent and start looking at houses or condos. When you purchase property in St Pete Beach, it is not just an investment in a new home but an investment in your dreams. Welcome to paradise!
